Bruce was born and raised in Seattle, WA in the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, and later, in the Assembly of God denomination.
In addition to Seattle, WA, Bruce has lived in various other places, including several years in Germany and has travelled extensively throughout the world. In 2013, Bruce graduated from
Andover Newton Theological School in Newton, MA with a Master of Divinity degree and was Ordained into Christian Ministry at Hope Central Church (DoC and UCC) in Jamaica Plain, MA.
Bruce met his husband, The Rev. Kevin Baker-Rooks, also an ordained Disciples of Christ minister while both attended Andover Newton Theological School and they were married in October 2010. Together, they have one son.
In addition to his Theological Studies, in 2012 Bruce completed his Clinical Pastoral Education Internship for Hospital Chaplaincy and in 2014 he completed a First Year Residency Program of CPE with an emphasis on Palliative Care, both at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. In 2015 Bruce completed a Second Year Research Fellowship at Carolinas Medical Center (now Atrium Health) in Charlotte, NC where he established the Spiritual Care Department at The Levine Cancer Institute.
Bruce, Kevin, and their son began attending SouthPark Christian Church when they first moved to Charlotte in 2014. On September 1, 2015 Bruce became our Interim Pastor and in July of 2016 Pastor Bruce was called as our Settled Pastor.
